well dear fellow bushcrafters, as it was a day off and i took time out from massage studies. i thought i would have a go at creating fire by hand drill, first time ever and wayhey the firstime i made fire the bow drill took seemingly forever when i was on the woodlore course, but this worked better than i hoped no blisters just achy shoulders and throbbing hands ...the woods used were Buddlea for the drill and spindle wood for the hearth.
i may try the spidle wood for the bow drill as well

I got to the woods to smooth it not to rough it

excellent, well done. I had quite a moment last week, doing a demo for the cubs in the rain, i managed to get flame from a flint and steel onto chagga fungus. Transfered the glowing ember to a bundle of clematis bark.
